In May of 2018, Early Ecology adopted the Woodminster Cascade at Joaquin Miller Park through the City of Oakland's adopt-a-spot program. Also known as, "Friends of Woodminster Cascade", we have many educational goals with this restoration project.
Early Ecology is a forest pre-school based at Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland. Early Ecology educators are dedicated to providing, high quality early education in the city based on our values of harmony with nature, inquiry and community. Early Ecology has an innovative educational approach to play-based learning in nature’s classroom. Using local green spaces children’s whole beings are engaged in the natural inquiry of their surrounding environment, developing a healthy respect for themselves, one another and nature.
Our first goal is to give back to our wonderful teacher, Mother Earth and our classroom, Joaquin Miller Park.
Our second goal is to inspire our youth and encourage community involvement to restore this historic Oakland landmark.
Last but not least, we want to provide education and sustainable gardening practices to help this environment thrive for years to come.
